About this piece
This painting depicts the historic Folger Stable in Woodside, California.
Originally home to the Ohlone people, the land was later transformed through logging and settlement, becoming a countryside retreat for the Folger family—known for Folgers Coffee—in the late 19th century.
When I visited the site, I was moved by the soft morning light falling on the stable and the gentle presence of a white horse passing by.
It felt as if a quiet moment from a bygone era still lingered there, untouched.
In today’s car-driven world, riding a horse may seem like a relic of the past.
But as I painted, I imagined myself astride that white horse—once, as an Ohlone rider from long ago, and again, as my modern self—quietly crossing time on horseback through memory and dream.
Riding the White Horse
Lyrics by Eimei
🎶【Verse 1】
Morning light falls on the quiet hill
Trees whisper soft in the gentle breeze
A forgotten trail through time reappears
And I was there—on a white horse again
🎶【Verse 2】
Voices of Ohlone echo through trees
Shadows of memories dance in the light
Through ages of wheels and restless dreams
My heart still walks that hidden path
🎶【Chorus】
There’s a scene no one else can see
But it’s alive, deep inside of me
Past and present blend as one
Riding the white horse, chasing a dream
🎶【Verse 3】
Unspoken memories ride the wind
Footsteps fade into the soil
Following tracks of those before
I moved ahead on the white horse again
🎶【Verse 4】
Faraway scenes blurred by the sun
A part of me waits there, yet to come
Building a bridge through time and grace
My white horse carries the dream beyond
🎶【Chorus】
There’s a scene no one else can see
But it’s alive, deep inside of me
Past and present blend as one
Riding the white horse, chasing a dream
🎶【Verse 5】
On the white horse, I ride unseen roads
Not returning, not truly gone
In a moment filled with quiet peace
I simply kept moving on
