About this piece
Cris – A Memory Along the Tracks
In the southern shadows of Hankyu Rokko Station once stood a quiet bar named Cris, run by a beautiful mother and daughter. Jazz would gently fill the air, and university students from nearby would often gather there.
Though I only visited a few times during my summer breaks from studying abroad, a connection formed when the younger "Mama" became close to a dear friend.
Years passed, and Cris quietly closed its doors. One autumn day in 1994, I received a postcard—its photo of the storefront simply titled:
"Memories of you, 1994 Autumn – Cris Since 1971."
It was then I realized: this place began when I turned twenty.
I kept that postcard close for years.
Now, with brush in hand, I’ve turned that memory into a painting—my way of saying: Thank you, Cris.
Bar CRIS ー Memories of you
Lyrics by Eimei
🎶【Verse 1】
A gentle light along the tracks,
Where jazz would float through midnight air.
You smiled behind that wooden door—
I was too young to really dare.
🎶【Verse 2】
A friend’s romance brought me inside,
The summer days were calm and slow.
We laughed across the counter bar—
How little then we seemed to know.
🎶【Chorus】
Thank you, Cris, for all you gave,
Though time has turned and miles divide.
Memories of you, Autumn ‘94,
Still in that postcard I hide.
Since ’71, your light would shine,
A place where hearts would confide.
🎶【Verse 3】
You handed me that farewell note,
A quiet end, no need for sound.
Behind the bricks and ivy wall—
A world of kindness I had found.
🎶【Chorus】
Farewell, Cris, the lights are gone,
But echoes linger, soft and true.
Memories of you, still holding on,
In every painted hue.
Since ’71, you welcomed dreams—
And I was one of the few.
