Basket of Apricots

Medium: Ink and watercolor on paper

Size: 12" x 9"
Year: 2023

About this piece

This piece marked my first step into the world of watercolor.
Having worked only with acrylics before, I felt both nervous and excited as I embraced the fluidity and unpredictability of this new medium.

Inspired by a photograph I found online, I painted a handmade basket filled with apricots—each fruit seeming to peek out shyly, as if to say, “Look how beautifully we’ve grown.”
Their gentle presence, almost alive, softened something within me.

More than a still life, this work captures a quiet conversation between sunlight, ripening color, and the courage to try something new.
It is a small afternoon moment, painted with a hopeful heart.

Basket of Apricots

Lyrics by Eimei

【Verse 1】
A whisper so soft, the apricot says
"Do I look sweet? Am I blushing today?"
Shyly it sways, in a basket of light
Trembling a little, in warm golden rays

【Verse 2】

Peeking up high from a handwoven bed
"I hope someone sees — I’m my best today"
Not quite as red as the one next to me
But I’ve come this far in my quiet way

【Chorus】

I want to be held, to feel someone’s hand
A little unsure, but I hope you’ll understand
Smiles in a row, we shimmer and shine
Rolling together in sweet summer time

【Verse 3】

One rolled away and softly replied
"You’ll taste the sunshine inside my skin"
Time took its breath and colored the day
And something gentle began to begin
