This painting is based on a photograph my friend shared on Facebook after returning to Japan and touring around Sadamine Pass (Sadamine-tōge) in Saitama. The bike in the image is an Italian Aprilia RS660. I had recently started exploring cars and other mechanical subjects in my drawings, and the RS660’s form and presence immediately appealed to me, so I asked for the photo and painted from it. While working on the piece, a simple thought kept returning: someday I’d love to ride too—cutting through the air and feeling the road firsthand.
